Greater Los Angeles offers unparalleled specialty medicine for treating life-threatening conditions and diseases. This level of excellence draws patients from around the world to our city for medical treatment, often requiring them to stay for weeks or even months. Many find themselves overwhelmed by the cost of their medical care, feelings of isolation, and the significant expense of lodging while away from home.

The Bikur Cholim House is a 10-unit apartment building in the heart of Hancock Park, centrally located near major medical centers throughout Los Angeles and within walking distance of synagogues and kosher markets. Each fully furnished one-bedroom apartment includes a kitchen, living room, and Wi-Fi, providing patients with a comfortable and supportive atmosphere during their treatment.

While the Bikur Cholim House is not a healthcare facility, it is designed to offer patients much-needed privacy in an environment that promotes health and well-being as they battle their illness.

Bikur Cholim operates the largest Jewish blood donor registry on the West Coast, organizing directed blood donors and major blood drives throughout Greater Los Angeles to ensure a steady supply of blood products for patients in need. We have long partnered with our city’s major hospitals to help ensure that life-saving blood is available when and where it is needed. Each challah is lovingly baked by volunteers and personally delivered on Erev Shabbos, whether the recipient is at home or in the hospital. This delicious and heartfelt gift serves as a reminder that they are not alone or forgotten and that they remain in the community’s hearts and prayers.

There’s nothing quite like bringing home your newborn and witnessing the beautiful moments as family gathers to welcome the newest addition. While you are deeply grateful to the Ribbono Shel Olam for this precious gift, you soon realize you are overwhelmed and exhausted. There’s so much to do – not just for the baby, but for the entire family – and as we all know, life’s responsibilities don’t come with a pause button. Caring for a newborn is hard work and all-consuming, which is where Bikur Cholim’s Kimpeturin program steps in to help.

In Yiddish, the word kimpeturin refers to a woman after childbirth. Over time, this term has come to represent vital support for new mothers in need of significant help and recovery. For parents facing financial hardship, this program provides financial assistance for a baby nurse or housekeeper, as well as other postpartum and newborn support during the crucial first few weeks after delivery. Whether it’s getting a few hours of uninterrupted sleep, help with nighttime feedings, or keeping the household from feeling like it’s falling apart, Kimpeturin gives parents some much-needed breathing room.

Our Medical Crisis Fund helps ensure that thousands of children and adults battling serious and life-threatening illnesses in our community receive the critical care they desperately need but cannot afford.

When patients have limited financial means, they may be underinsured or unable to cover co-payments, deductibles, and other non-covered medical expenses. With uncertainty and financial hardship affecting the most vulnerable among us, our Medical Crisis Fund serves as a life-saving resource, helping ensure that those in need can access the treatment, surgery, and medication they need to fight for their lives.

The Bikur Cholim SPOT program assists countless children in our community who are in desperate need of Speech, Physical, and Occupational Therapy, but lack coverage through insurance or government assistance. With schools not providing this vital early intervention and no other financial support available, these children may face debilitating challenges that could affect them for life, depriving them of opportunities most of us take for granted.
